Barbara Seiler

The Message of the Forest by Czech surrealist artist Toyen is the starting point for this group exhibition. It combines the work of contemporary, female artists who, consciously or subconsciously, address the subversion of reality and find the uncanny in the everyday. They tap into our unconscious desires and bring dreams to life. Fluidity of gender roles and the awareness of the different identities that a single personality can harbor at one time, and at the same time the struggle to feel ‘one’, is the common thread amalgamating Toyen with her counterparts today.
